European Forum on Population Ageing Research

This is a three year project funded by the European Commission, under Key Action Six of the Framework Five Programme.
The project started in 2002 and completed on January 31st 2005 but the project and this supporting website will continue to be maintained.

The three main areas of the project were:

  • Quality of life Quality of Life
  • health and social Health & Social care management
  • demography Demography, Longevity & Genetics
The work of the Forum has been developed into a new project :
European Research Area on Ageing (ERA - AGE)

The ERA - AGE website is on-line and will be developed further as the project progresses.

The forum had five main objectives:

  1. To develop synergies between the key action on the ageing population and the national and international research programmes in the field.
  2. To improve channels of communication from the key action into the national research communities and vice versa.
  3. To promote broader European cooperation and networking in the field of ageing research.
  4. To stimulate interdisciplinary research.
  5. To promote better public awareness of the importance of scientific research on ageing.
The FORUM project focused on three broad areas of ageing research:
  • Quality of Life
  • Health and Social Care management
  • Demography, Genetics and Longevity
The core elements of the project are:
  • Two scientific workshops on Quality of Life
  • Two scientific workshops on Health and Social Care management
  • Two scientific workshops on Demography, Genetics and Longevity
  • Two meetings of the Forum
  • Three research reviews, one on each of the topics listed above
  • A user consultation conference
  • Three newsletters
